The outcome for patients with COVID-19 infections depends on many factors and remains difficult to predict. The Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) has a growing set of genetic and other patient data related to COVID-19 outcomes. Japan’s largest research institution, RIKEN, has used AI to develop disease stratification algorithms, that may be applied to determine which people are at risk of poor outcomes from COVID-19. In this collaboration data will be able to be securely shared between the institutions using BC Platforms’ BC|INSIGHT technology. This will allow the institutions to unravel the relationship between genetic and other factors and better understand why and how COVID-19 leads to mortality in some patients, which should help health systems in their fight against the pandemic.
